What you will need:
- Soap bubble liquid
- Straw
- Plate
- Small/Medium wands
- Foamer (We sell these or you can make your own)
Buy a bubble workshop kit for this activity and foamers. However you can use any small bubble wand and you can make you own foamer easily out of an old plastic bottle with a sock tied around it.
What Liquid Do You Need?
For indoor bubble activities, a simple 50/50 mix of Fairy Liquid and water works great. We recommend using Green Original Fairy Liquid or Blue Antibacterial for the best results—other scents or cheaper brands may not perform as well.
If you’re using magic powder for big bubbles, add double the amount of water to thin out the mixture. Keep in mind, it might be a bit heavy for indoor bubbles, but it will still work.
Our favourite bubble liquid for all indoor activities is Uncle Bubble Liquid—it’s fantastic for less mess! However, any of the above liquids will work well for smaller groups or at home. For larger groups (like in schools or parties), Uncle Bubble is the best choice, as it creates fewer spills and is easier to manage.
How to Set Up?

Tables & Chairs: Set up a few tables and chairs for the kids to sit at. It’s important they stay seated to avoid messes—standing encourages bubbles to go flying!

Protect the Tables: Cover the tables with towels or absorbent fabric. If your tables are porous or not waterproof, add a layer of waterproof fabric (like kitchen covers or a tarp) underneath to catch any spills.

Bubble Blowing Direction: Instruct the kids to blow the bubbles towards the table, ensuring any pops are absorbed by the towels, not the floor. This keeps the area safe and less slippery!

Double Tub the Liquid: Consider using two tubs for the liquid to reduce spills, or opt for a shallow dish to keep the liquid contained. This way, you’ll avoid unnecessary messes.

Colours in Bubbles
Bubble colour pattern: First you will see GREEN (when the bubble film is at its thickest), BLUE then MAGENTA, PURPLE then GOLDEN YELLOW, nearly BLACK (when the bubble film is at its thinnest) then POP!
Blow Big & Small Bubbles
Want to blow both big and small bubbles? Here’s how:
- For Small Bubbles: Hold the wand close to your mouth and blow gently.
- For Big Bubbles: Hold the wand further away and blow a little stronger. You can experiment by blowing faster or slower to see how it affects the size of your bubbles!
Bubble Game: Try to make the biggest bubble you can—how big can you go?
Trouble Blowing Bubbles?
If the bubbles aren’t forming, don’t worry! Sometimes beginners or younger kids accidentally suck in a little air before blowing. This can break the bubble film, making it impossible to form a bubble. Just try again and focus on blowing gently, not sucking in.
Think of it like Goldilocks—blow too hard, and the bubble pops; too soft, and nothing happens. But when you get it just right, magic happens, and you’ll have a perfect bubble! Keep practicing, and you’ll get the hang of it!
Bubble Art
Get ready for hours of fun creating bubble shapes and sculptures with just a plate, straw, and bubble liquid! This activity is perfect for sparking creativity in kids of all ages.
Top Tip: Before you start, fully wet the plate with bubble liquid. Dip your straw into the liquid so it’s at least halfway immersed. Remember, anything dry will pop the bubble—so be sure to wet the base and edges of the plate too!
Extra Tip: If you’re having trouble blowing bubbles, start by creating a foam base on the plate. Then, use the straw to blow into the foam. This technique is great for younger children (ages 2-6) or anyone who could use a little extra help to get started with the bubble art fun!
Making Bubble Sculptures
Ready to dive into bubble magic? Creating bubble sculptures is the perfect way to start! Once you’ve mastered blowing bubbles, you can challenge yourself with more advanced bubble tricks.
Here are some tips to get you started:
- Wet the Straw Well: Make sure the straw is wet at least halfway to avoid popping the bubble with the dry part.
- Watch Out for Dry Fingers: Touching the bubble with dry fingers can cause it to pop, so keep them wet!
Hint: If your bubbles keep falling off the wand, your bubble solution may be too thick and gloopy. Add a little more water to lighten it up and get bubbles that last longer!
Tip: Don’t worry if it’s tricky at first! Bubble sculpture takes practice. If it’s not working, try the plate art section first, then return to bubble sculptures after a few tries. Enjoy the process and keep practicing!
