Why don’t we like foam in our bubble solution?
Foam is a bubble entertainers worst enemy, too much foam on the top of the solution will kill bubbles, and if they do form they will be heavy and dull in colour. Its not just you at home that suffers with the foamy mixes! Believe me its our biggest problem when working at parties and events.
We can’t stop foam completely, no matter how much we try or no matter what brand of giant bubble solution we use. However there is some things we can do to reduce the foam creating in the first place.

Why the bubble mixture becomes foamy?
It is everyones instinct to dip their wand in the bubble solution and give it a little wiggle before lifting the wand out. Even I did this to start with, it seems to be human nature to mix the mixture like you would a cake mix. So we have to train ourselves and the kids not to do this.
How to prevent the bubble liquid from becoming so foamy!
- Instruct the kids (and newbie adults) to just DIP & LIFT! Its as simple as that. All the wands in my online shop are designed to just dip and lift.
- You can also as the adult in charge only give out a bit of solution to the children at a time just enough for them to play with, then when it becomes too foamy, discard and refresh. Don’t give them a whole bucket full of freshly made juice at the beginning otherwise they whole bucket will get foamy. Just give them small amounts at a time.
- By instructing everyone and yourself to just dip and lift you will minimise the disturbance on the bubble solutions surface thus minimise the foam created. Our instinctive desire to dip, stir, swish, mix then lift is which causes more foam to form quickly.
- I advise you repeat the dip & lift instruction to the younger kids until they get the hang of it and stop swishing and shaking.
- If you ever see me doing a bubble workshop for kids you will hear me repeating all day ‘just dip and lift’.
What to do when my bubble solution becomes foamy?
So, if your solution has become foamy you can remove the foam with your hand/ or large strainer spoon or let settle down over a few hours. The solution inevitably becomes a little foamy even when being ultra careful.
Conclusion
The best way to deal with the foam is to minimise it, by just dipping and lifting, not swishing and stirring. And only use small amounts of bubble solution at a time. Then remove any foam from the surface when it becomes too much or if we have the time to let it re-settle down.
