Painting with Bubbles – “Bubble Art”

Bubble painting is a fantastic way to combine creativity and play, offering a unique way to make colourful patterns. Whether you’re painting with bubbles for fun or creating art to display, these two methods are equally exciting and easy to try.

Method 1: Bubble Painting in a Bowl

What You’ll Need:

• Bubble solution (store-bought or DIY).
• Non-toxic liquid paint (water-based is ideal). TIP – Use the highest quality/highest pigment paint you can
• A bowl or cup.
• A straw.
• Paper (watercolour paper works best for durability, or s similar thick quality paper or card).

Pro Tip: Use artist-grade, child-friendly paint with high pigments for vibrant results. Pair it with artist-grade paper like watercolor paper or thick card for the best effect.

Note: Water-based paints are ideal for kids’ crafts as they wash out easily. While acrylic paints offer richer pigments, they do not wash out, so use them with caution around children.

How to Do It:

1. Mix the Colours:
   • Combine equal parts paint and bubble solution (50/50) in a bowl. Stir gently to avoid creating unwanted foam. TIP – if the paintings lack vibrancy you may need to add more paint or find a higher pigmented paint.
2. Create the Bubbles:
   • Use a straw to blow into the mixture until a mound of bubbles rises above the bowl’s edge. Ensure the bubbles don’t spill over.
3. Transfer the Bubble Art:
   • Press your paper gently onto the bubble mound to capture the colourful bubble patterns.
   • Lift the paper to reveal your unique bubble painting design.
4. Dry and Layer:
   • Let the paper dry before adding more layers for a vibrant, multi-coloured effect.

Method 2: Painting with Bubbles Using a Bubble Foamer

What You’ll Need:

• A bubble foamer (e.g., a bottle with a cloth secured over the end).
• Bubble solution.
• Paint (see above for more details about which paint)
• Paper.

How to Do It:

1. Prepare Your Mixture:
   • Mix equal parts paint and bubble solution in a bowl or container.
2. Dip the Foamer:
   • Coat the cloth end of your foamer in the colourful mixture.
3. Blow the Foam:
   • Blow through the open end to create colourful foam bubbles.
   • Allow the foam to land and pile up on your paper.
4. Watch the Bubble Art Come to Life:
   • Once dry, the foam leaves behind vibrant and textured patterns.

Tips for Successful Bubble Painting

• Enhance the Colours: If your bubble art lacks vibrancy, add more paint to the mix for better pigmentation. If this still isn’t working then you may need to choose a paint with more pigments in, this is usually the better quality paints. 
• Choose the Right Paper: Thick or watercolor paper is best to handle the liquid without tearing.
• Layer Colours: Overlap different colours to create dynamic and eye-catching designs.
