Want to wow big crowds with bubbles?
Step-by-step guide to creating an extra-large bubble wand
This guide is perfect for our DIY bubble wand enthusiasts and bubble artists performing at events. You’ll also find links to recommended products and tips for crafting custom bubble strings to fit these oversized wands.
Materials You’ll Need
- Telescopic Handles: I recommend using Dinsmores Power Lite 2.2m 2-Piece Landing Net Handles for their durability, light weight and extended reach. However other handing net handles that are around 2m long and are telescopic with 2pcs will work.
- Metal Loop and Wall Plug: Secure the bubble string with a screw-in metal loop (eye hook) attached to the handle.
- Waterproof Glue: Use a strong adhesive like Gorilla Glue to fix the wall plug and eye hook in place, especially when working with heavy bubble nets.
- Clip on your bubble strings with a metal clip or carabiner.

DIY Instructions for a Giant Bubble Wand:
-
Prepare the Handles:
- Assemble the telescopic handles for maximum length (up to 2-2.5m).
- Attach the screw-in metal loop to the handle using a wall plug. You may need to cut and hammer the wall plug into the end, them simply screw in the eye hook.
-
Secure the Components:
- Apply waterproof glue to the wall plug and loop connection. This ensures the loop remains secure, even with heavy nets during performances.
-
Attach the Bubble String:
- Use your choice of DIY large bubble wand string—tri-strings, nets, rockets, or smilers. You can create these at home or contact me at cheryl@bubblyheaven.co.uk to order custom-made strings that fit these oversized handles.
-
Final Assembly:
- Once everything is secure and the glue has dried, your big bubble wand DIY setup is ready for action!
- I have covered the fishing pole branding with some shrink wrap tubing.
Tip for Rusting
All metal will eventually rust, but using stainless steel loops can significantly slow the process. Applying a coat of clear nail varnish over the metal loop also helps prevent rust. I’ve been using this method for years with no rust issues so far! If rust does start to appear, I use scrunched-up tinfoil to rub it off and then reseal the metal with nail varnish to keep it protected.
Why Use These Materials?
- Telescopic Handles: They’re lightweight yet strong, ideal for creating giant bubbles at outdoor events.
- Customizable Strings: I can create extra-large nets, smilers, rockets, and tri-strings to fit these handles, ensuring you get the best results for big crowds.
Tips for Success:
- Use a high-quality bubble solution to maximise bubble size and durability.
- Check connections regularly to ensure all components are secure during performances.
