Free Guide: How to Put Kids Inside a Giant Bubble!

Perfect for parents, party hosts, and entertainers who want to add a wow factor to their events with this unforgettable bubble trick.

Creating the magic of placing someone inside a bubble is exciting and easier than you think! Here’s an overview of the three main methods, along with their pros and cons and recommendations for tools to help you get started.

Three Main Methods Explained!

Method 1: Hoop & Moat

Using a hoop and moat is one of the most popular and straightforward ways to put someone inside a bubble.

  • How it Works: Fill the moat (a shallow tray) with bubble solution, dip the hoop into the solution, and lift it around the person to create a giant bubble tube.

Pros:

  • Operated by just one person.
  • Easy to use, even for beginners.
  • Versatile: Make domes, doughnuts, bubbles within bubbles, and more.
  • DIY-friendly: Use a kiddie pool, fibre glass or even a patio table as your moat.

Cons:

  • Once set up, it’s not easy to move.
  • Solution foams after repeated use and needs refreshing.
  • Requires a large container to empty the used solution.
  • Not suitable for wheelchairs, pushchairs, or seated adults.

Method 2: Over-the-Head Rope Wands (Wheelchair-Friendly)

Over-the-head rope wands are an inclusive option, allowing you to put people in wheelchairs, pushchairs, or chairs inside bubbles.

  • How it Works: Two people use a rope wand dipped in bubble solution to lift a bubble over someone’s head.

Pros:

  • Highly portable and easy to transport.
  • No need to refresh the solution frequently like with moats.
  • Inclusive for wheelchairs and seated individuals.
  • Affordable and readily available (we sell them!).
  • Encourages teamwork and interaction.
  • Can also make giant bubbles outdoors.
  • We sell them

Cons:

  • Requires two people to operate.
  • Needs a bit of practice to master the technique.

Tips for Kids in a Bubble Activity:

Standing Position:

  • Instruct kids to stand tall, with their arms down by their sides, and look straight ahead.
  • Why? This prevents liquid from dripping into their eyes if they look up during the activity.

Stopping the Popping:

  • If kids keep popping the bubbles, ask them to cross their arms in front of their chest.
  • Bonus Tip: This technique works especially well when working with SEND children.

Interactive Distraction:

Hand kids some foam to hold or create a “bubble snowman” by balancing a bubble on top of foam. This keeps their hands busy and makes the experience more engaging.

Help! My KIB moat gets really foamy!

Foamy moats can be tricky, but here are some strategies I’ve found helpful:

Managing Foam:
  • Dual moats: Use two moats (one smaller, one larger) and alternate between them. This allows the foam to settle while you use the other.
  • Scoop it out: Use a small sieve to remove foam manually.
  • Alcohol spray: A light spray of isopropyl alcohol can reduce foam. Use sparingly, as over-spraying may affect the solution’s performance.
  • Interactive alternative: Switch to using two-person rope wands and involve a grown-up volunteer. It’s a fun, interactive way to keep the activity going while the foam subsides.

How to prevent spillages and empty the moat without making a mess:

The ideas below come from members of the Newbie Soap Bubble Entertainer Facebook Group.

Removing Liquid Without Lifting:

  • Use a kids’ pool squirter or a turkey baster to siphon out the liquid.
  • Try a battery-operated liquid transfer pump or an aquarium siphon.
  • Use an extra-large syringe for quick and controlled removal.

Emptying by Lifting and Tipping:

  • Tip carefully over a large tray or tub with a wide opening, then pour into a smaller transport bucket.
  • Place the moat inside a large waterproof plastic bag. Tip the liquid into the bag, then pour it back into a bucket for transport.

Floor Protection

Pro Tip: Use black waterproof-backed mats for floor protection around the bubble area.

We recommend these black waterproof backed whelping mats

Top Tips for Success:

  • Slip Safety: To stop the kids from sliding and slipping in and around the kid in the bubble area, use non slip under carpet grip or a bath mat with bristles– it works wonders!!
  • Practice Makes Perfect: Experiment with different techniques to find what works best for you.
  • Use High-Quality Solution: Stronger solutions create more stable bubbles. I would highly recommend using Uncle Bubble Liquid
Large whelping mats

Method 3: One-Person Kid-in-a-Bubble Wand

This DIY-friendly wand is portable and simple to make at home.

  • How it Works: Use a custom-made wand to create bubbles around children.

Pros:

  • Very portable and easy to store.
  • Affordable and DIY-friendly.

Cons:

  • Takes practice to use effectively.
  • Requires you to make your own wand, as they’re not commonly sold.
